Cat Collars

I wish I could say good things about this collar but I want to warn other pet owners of what happened to me. I purchased this collar for one of my eldest cats when I had an ankle injury. This cat is big, an indoor cat, and does not move when he sees feet heading his way. Having the ankle injury I needed to know where he was so figured a bell collar would be a great idea. The idea was great but I was surprised to what I woke up to one day. The collar states it `breaks away’. I have bought these in the past and another brand failed me but did not think much of it since it was years ago and figured this one was made better. However I woke up one day to find salvia all over the pergo floors I own and the cat that had the collar on had tears in his eyes. His face was pointed down and it was not until I saw the side of his face did I notice the collar was stuck in his mouth! I did not put the collar on too tight either. I assume he tried to pull the collar off but instead with the `break away’ it got stuck in his mouth and he could not breathe. He was very scared and I had to remove the collar very carefully with scissors. I had high hopes for the collar in the short time I needed it but would never put my cat through the pain he went through. Had it actually worked, as it appears it did with another reviewer, I would have been happy. Sadly I cannot recommend this collar and will never buy another one for my indoor fur babies. They are microchiped and never go out but at the time it seemed like a good idea but turned out to be a nightmare for me and the cat.

I edited this review after someone stated I had the collar on too loose. If it was the cat would have been able to get it over his head. Instead he was only able to pull it over the top of his head and the rest of the collar was caught in his mouth and jaw. He could not close his mouth and was in pain. I have had over 20 cats in the 25 plus years I have owned them and feel I know how to properly put a collar on a cat. I wrote this review to prevent others from going through what my poor guy did.

My cat always licks his collar while grooming and it is quickly turned into a big, frayed mess around his neck. This suede collar has held up over the last few months. However, I wish there were more attractive colors. The yellow and grey is ok, though.

I have 10 barn cats on my farm but I still look out for their saftey as they were indoor cats. I did a lot of research and this collar met all of my needs.

1. It has a saftey release in case kitty gets caught on something.

2. It has a reflective strip so cars can see kitty at night.

3. It glows in the dark so you can find kitty easier at night.

4. I bought the lime color because it shows up easier during the day and lime color looks good on all cat colors.

5. Has a bell so I can heas kitty and warns it warn the birds and squirrels that kitty is near. The silver bell looks good.

6. The price is the best I could find anywhere.

I also ordered the glow-in-the-dark lime color heart shaped pet ID tags with the 24 hour call in center. What a great combo.

This is a great idea. I don’t have to worry about stepping on my cat when I walk around the house with the lights off. Only problem is my cat has a med size neck (from other custom collars I’ve ordered)and this collar is very large. I had to move the black plastic buckle to the middle of the “plastic glow band” in order to fit my cat. The glow part is plastic and stiff, so the buckle doesn’t easily adjust to fit smaller cats.

I got the black collar with white fish for my grey tabby bi-color cat and it looks very nice on him. The fish are reflective and show up very well in headlights and with a flashlight. The safety clasp is stiffer than most cat collars I’ve tried and I’m hoping that means he won’t lose this one in a matter of days. He did get it off within the first five minutes but it was fairly loose. I’ve snugged it up since then (just loose enough for two fingers to slip underneath) and he hasn’t undone it since.

Another reviewer commented that it was stiff, and it is a little but it fits him fine and doesn’t seem to bother him at all. My cat is full grown though. I could see this being too stiff for a tiny kitten but kittens don’t stay tiny for long!

I liked the color choices and the breakaway feature for this collar. I took the bell off because he would scratch and it drove me nuts! He has not had the collar come off with the breakaway feature yet but I have pulled it apart myself and it works great. I liked the idea that if he does get caught, he can get away and not choke.

Nice looking collar, but the breakaway latch disconnects too easy. It came off several times within the first two days. After several successful collar hunts, the last time it came off it was gone for good (along with our pretty custom made Etsy tag!).

It’s not like our cat was clawing to get out of the collar, it just came off during normal cat activity. I recommend against this collar.
